DETACHMENT
„The freeing of an individual, as he grows up, from the authority of his parents is one of the most necessary though one of the most painful results brought about by the course of his development. It is quite essential that this liberation should occur and it may be presumed that it has been to some extent achieved by everyone who has reached a normal state. (Sigmund Freud, “Family Romances,” 1909) *
However, how is it possible for a mother to let go of her child? Where are the limits? When? How much motherly love is considered enough? What happens when the love for a child hinders them on their path into freedom and autonomy?
My work explores the relationship between a mother and a daughter who dares to take her first steps into independence, a story in which reason faces the strongest emotion of humanity: motherly love
